TOPIC: JOSEPH IN EGYPT
TEXT: GENESIS 50:15-22
15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,
17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.
Key Verse: “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive”(Genesis 50:20).
MESSAGE:
Why did God allow Joseph to be sold to Egypt and to suffer unjustly? Here are a few possible answers. God took Joseph to Egypt to: teach him patience, enable him to overcome pride and learn humility, teach him how to serve faithfully, test his loyalty and moral purity, experience His promised blessings, place him in a position to tell Pharaoh of God’s power, prepare him to comfort others, prepare him to lead his brothers to repentance and save many lives.
We are not to regard suffering as a strange occurrence but rather as a means to demonstrate God’s work in our lives. Your situation can never hinder the fulfilment of God’s purpose for you.
Be like Joseph in Egypt. Be pure and pious, humble and patient. Be courageous in declaring God’s power and majesty to the sinning world. Work tirelessly to lead sinners to the Saviour. Be a channel of blessing to people and always be prepared to comfort the discouraged and the broken hearted.
Live to fulfil the plans and purpose of God for your life. As God’s children, we are to shine as stars in this world, holding forth the word of life. Be another Joseph in your generation.
Prayer: Lord, help me to always appreciate and thank You for every situation I come across in life.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
