TOPIC: SLUGGARD STUDENTS
TEXT: PROVERBS 20:4-7
4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
MEMORY VERSE: “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing” (PROVERBS 20:4).
MESSAGE:
Who do you think a sluggard is? A sluggard is a person who is habitually inactive or lazy. A synonym for sluggard in the Bible is slothful. They both come from the same Hebrew root word ‘atsluoth’, from which some believe we get the English word ‘Sloth’, which literally means to ‘lean idly’.
Bob Russell, among other things, identifies that a sluggard can’t get started in the morning; seldom finishes anything; is full of excuses; seems to get a lot of bad breaks; and is full of unrealistic dreams.
Do you always have a reason for your inaction, for postponing your salvation or making your pending restitutions? Do you drag your feet in turning in your class assignments? If these characteristics define your life, you are a sluggard and need to wake up.
The slothful are failures in life; and a good number of them are failures spiritually and could end up in eternal regrets. The way out for the lazy or sluggard is to have a to-do-list and prayerfully follow it meticulously. Avoid procrastination!

CHALLENGE: Avoid procrastination!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, deliver me from the spirit of laziness.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
