TOPIC: HUMILITY HELPS
TEXT: 1 PETER 5:3-6
3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
MEMORY VERSE: “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble” (1 PETER 5:5).
MESSAGE:
Humility helps the humble and his community. Absence of it is a major cause of conflicts the world over. According to Gary L. Thomas, “Humility will become a passion for us when we realise that the more we put our own egos out of the way, the more the life and power and purpose of God can pass through us. When this happens, something glorious takes place. We get to experience the quality of eternal life without the taint of our own control and small ego demands.”
This then is why God rejects the proud people and gives grace to the humble. Humility also involves knowing your limits and putting positive construction on the actions, intentions and perspectives of others.
Humility is not the same as having low self-esteem, fear or timidity. It is not belittling of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. Humility is a mark of a true believer. The proud belong to Satan’s camp, but the humble, the camp of the Lamb of God. Dear friend, are you humble and submissive? If not, you must be born again.
QUOTE: Humility is a mark of a true believer.
CHALLENGE: You lack humility if you disrespect others.
PRAYER: Father, help me to be humble always, in Jesus’ Name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
