TOPIC: OBEY YOUR PARENTS – 2
TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:1-3
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Key Verse: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1).
MESSAGE:
Ben was known in school to be an obedient and respectful boy. Unknown to the teachers, Ben’s behaviour at home was different. He was disobedient and disrespectful to his parents.
The word “obey” means to hear and do what you are told to do by your parents. God wants you to obey your parents in all things, as long as the instructions are not leading you to sin. You are to obey not only when it is easy but also when it is not convenient. When you disobey your parents, you disobey God as well.

It is wrong to respect and obey your teachers in the school, but disobey and disrespect your parents at home. It is a sign of disrespect to talk back at your parents or shout at them. If you have been doing this, you must repent, ask God for forgiveness and stop this bad behaviour.
Obedience is a good thing and God has a promise for those children who obey and honour their parents (Deuteronomy 5:16). Obedient children will live long and it will be well with them. Remember, God’s commandments are to be obeyed. If you have been finding it difficult to obey, pray and ask God for help.
Prayer: Dear God, please help me to be an obedient child.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
