TOPIC: DEFENDING THE FAITH
TEXT: JUDE :3-5
4For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
5I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
MEMORY VERSE: “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (JUDE 1:3).
MESSAGE:
One of the contemporary defenders of the Christian faith is Martin Luther. When he was on trial that would have led to his execution, hear what he declared, “Unless I am convicted by Scripture and plain reason, I do not accept the authority of popes and councils, for they have contradicted each other, my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against my conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise. God help me. Amen.” The present conditions are not different from Martin Luther’s era. The Bible’s doctrines are perverted and distorted. The battle for truth against latter-day errors is raging. Every Christian is a soldier of Christ. Stand and defend the truth of the Bible by preaching and practicing it.
Beloved, many believers, young and old, have defended the faith in the past. In the face of errors pervading the world, believers should arise and do something. Evil thrives where good people do nothing. Where there is an error, we confront it by preaching the whole truth.
QUOTE: Every Christian is a soldier of Christ.
CHALLENGE: As Christ’s representative, dispel error with the truth.
PRAYER: Oh God, give me boldness to defend the faith before all.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
