Topic: A CONFIDENT CONTENDER
Text — 1 Samuel 17:32-37
33And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
37David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
Key Verse: “Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God” (1 Samuel 17:36).
Message
Most animals have very strong instincts for defending their young. A lioness is in a fiercest mood when it senses that its cub is threatened. Even the harmless hen, uses all it strength to fight anyone who threatens it chicks. David was a confident defender from his youth. Later, Hushai described King David and his mighty men as “chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field’’ (2 Samuel 17:8).
Young shepherd David shared his testimony before King Saul before he was permitted to fight and kill the Philistine giant, Goliath. Throughout his life, he defended Israel to the glory of God. You are also called to confidently preach the word of God everywhere you go. Bullies must not stop you. Speak for Jesus at all times. Quote: Bullies must not stop you
Challenge: Earnestly contend for the faith in Christ. Will your biography include the possibility of making heaven?
Prayer for today: My God, anoint me to do holy exploits in Jesus’ name.Lord, may I be counted among the righteous like Enoch.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
