DCLM Sincere Milk  24 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiA Cup Of Water

Topic: A Cup Of Water

Text: Genesis 24:12-20

12And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

13Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:

14And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

15And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

16And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.

17And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

18And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.

19And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.

20And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.

Key Verse: “And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.” General 24:18

Message

Kathy, the new girl in the class was barely settling down and getting adjusted to the system. She was being careful about her choice of friends because of her not too pleasant experience in her former school. One day, she was the only person in the class during the long break. She was looking sad, hungry and lonely as she had forgotten her lunch box at home while trying to catch up with the school bus. The teacher, who noticed her situation, offered her a cup of water and sandwich. It changed her mood and attitude.

Rebekah too knew what it means to be kind. Her daily chores included drawing water from the well outside town in a jar for her household. When Abraham’s servant, tired and thirsty from his journey asked for a little water, she did not only give him a drink but offered to give water to his camels and his servants also. Life is not easy for many people. A little act of kindness can encourage them and lift their spirits. You can be a channel of God’s love, not only by preaching, singing or doing some other great tasks, sometimes, it can be by just giving someone a cup of cold water.

Prayer for today: O Lord, please open my eyes to the needs of people around me and give me the wisdom to know how to care for them.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
