DCLM Sincere Milk 5 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Little Sleep, a Little Slumber
Topic: A Little Sleep, a Little Slumber
Text — Proverbs 24:30-34
30I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
33Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
Key Verse: “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:” Proverbs 24:33
Message
Sleep is a state of rest and it is a gift of God to human beings. God designed that sleep should be in the night after the day’s work. Sleeplessness can lead to serious health problem. When a person sleeps, the body refreshes and prepares for another day of labour. However, as good as sleep is, it can become excessive and can be abused. Sleep should be done out of need, not because of idleness. The Bible refers to idleness as slothfulness. A slothful child is a lazy child who does not want to work. Such a child enjoys these things: sleep, eat and play. His daily life activities revolves around these three things; a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep.
When a child is lazy and enjoys these three activities of sleep, play and eat, what will be the outcome?
(i) School assignments would be left undone (ii) No preparation for tests and other academic activities (iii) Memory verse for the week would not be learnt (iv) Daily Bible Reading would not be done (v) Failure in examination (vi) No academic prize won at the end of the year (vii) Repetition of the same class.
A slothful child cannot achieve excellence. You must make up your mind today that laziness and slothfulness will not rule your life. Be a hardworking child and the top is your place. You will be above only

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, deliver me from laziness and idleness. Make me a hard-working child.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
