DCLM Higher Everyday 23 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Living Sacrifice For God
Topic: A Living Sacrifice For God
Text: Romans 12:1-2
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Key Verse: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).
Message
Have you been to an abattoir or a slaughter house before? If you have not, you definitely have witnessed animals being killed during festive seasons. An animal to be slaughtered doesn’t have control over its life anymore. However, being a living sacrifice refers to a state of daily consecration and dedication to God. We dedicate our brain to work out His will, our mind to think out His thought, our eyes to behold His holiness, our hands to handle His works, our legs to go to places that will please Him, our ears to hear His words and not gossips, our mouth to tell of His words and goodness to others.

In all, we look at life through the lens of God’s Word and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. We are to willingly offer ourselves to God. The truest sacrifice we can make is to live according to His purpose for our lives. That’s why we sing “Lord, prepare me a sanctuary, pure and Holy, tried and true, with thanksgiving I’d be a living sanctuary for you.”
Quote: Live according to His purpose
Challenge: Be a living sacrifice.
Prayer for today: O God, help me to be a living sacrifice, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
