DCLM Daily Manna 21 September 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Name Like No Other
TOPIC: A Name Like No Other (DCLM Daily Manna 21 September 2024)
KEY VERSE: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace, there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom…” – Isaiah 9:6,7
TEXT: Isaiah 9:1-7 (KJV)
1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Names have special meanings, and sometimes they reveal the circumstances or situation in which a child was born. Names also convey the virtues parents wish a child to possess or the purpose they want him or her to accomplish in life.
The profundity of Prophet Isaiah’s declarations in our text today is found not just in the birth of Christ, His attributes, royalty and future reign, but in His name. He shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Christ’s names point to a future era that transcends the present age, and situates the infinity of His righteous reign with judgment and justice. This will commence at the onset of the millennial rule, when Jesus will return to establish a government of righteousness on earth.

Christ Jesus came from heaven to make the sons of men the sons of God; to enlist citizens of the earth as citizens of heaven. He came the first time to redeem the human race. Before His second coming, He will first come at the rapture to take away His holy and prepared bride, the Church, to heaven before the great tribulation. Only sinners, backsliders and careless believers will partake of the great tribulation.
The journey of life is strewn with danger and hazards that usually leads to sin and eternal separation from God. It is for this reason that God gave Him a name above every other name, at the mention of which every knee must bow, and every tongue must declare His lordship. Jesus came to save man from the agony of eternal death. He invites you today, to come to Jesus and find rest for your soul, receive assurance of a peaceful eternity with Almighty God and be part of the unique government He will enthrone on earth, at the end of time.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
