DCLM Higher Everyday 11 October 2024 — A Peculiar General Problem – Part 1
DCLM Higher Everyday 11 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Peculiar General Problem – Part 1
Topic: A Peculiar General Problem – Part 1
Text: Numbers 27:1-5
1Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
3Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
4Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.
5And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.
Key Verse: “why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father” (Numbers 27:4).
Message
Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, died without a son though he had five daughters. Faced with the possible extinction of their names in Israel, they graciously approached Moses, Eleazer, the priest, and other congregation leaders. Contrary to the norm, they wanted an inheritance among their Father’s brethren; therefore, Moses sought the Lord for guidance, and a new law emerged on the heritage of daughters in Israel. Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

Many lessons are derivable from their approach and the attitude of Moses.
1. We need wisdom and humility when approaching leaders for our concerns.
2. We must be humble as leaders not to assume we have the solution to every problem; therefore, we should seek God’s guidance.
3. We should be interested in the inheritance of our parents.
4. Never murmur but ask questions when confused.
5. Among God’s people, there must not be injustice in dealings with people irrespective of age, class, colour, or gender. Humility and peace should be easy with Jesus in our hearts.

Challenge: That the girl child may not be denied her rights
Prayer for today: Help me, O God to possess my possessions, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
