DCLM Higher Everyday 12 September 2025 — A Prophet’s Doubt In Prison
DCLM Higher Everyday 12 September 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Prophet’s Doubt In Prison
Topic: A Prophet’s Doubt In Prison
Text: Matthew 11:1-6
1And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
Key Verse: “And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?” (Matthew 11:3)
Message
There are many ups and downs in life, and sometimes things hardly turn out the way we had planned. Incidents like illness, the death of a loved one, financial instability, and academic difficulties are all parts of the many challenges we face in life. Many times, these make us to doubt and question what life has for us. According to the passage, John, the forerunner of Jesus Christ, experienced loneliness and neglect during his trial and persecution. He was concerned and felt that Jesus had not shown him any sympathy during his hardships. John, the Baptist was overwhelmed by the challenges he was facing and began to speak like somebody that was not a prophet.

Dear Christian youth, how do you feel when faced with life’s problems? Do you resort to self-pity and doubting the unchanging precious promises of God? He knows who you are and all you are going through. When faced with challenges, you can find solace in God. Be rest assured of His presence and never forget that He will defend and protect you.
Quote: You can find solace in God
Challenge: Remember that God is with you.
Prayer for today: Help my faith not to drift away from you, oh Lord.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
