TOPIC: A PURE HEART
BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 24:1-5
2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.
3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
MEMORY VERSE: “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity…” (PSALM 24:3, 4).
MESSAGE:
The Greek word for “pure” as declared by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount is “Katharos”. It means to be “clean, blameless, and unstained from guilt.” It also refers definitely to that which is purified by fire or by pruning. The heart, which in Greek is called “kardeeah”, can be applied to the physical heart. It specifically also refers to the spiritual centre of life. It is where thoughts, desires, sense of purpose, will, understanding, and character reside. Therefore, to be pure in heart means to be blameless.
A Christian writer noted, “Being pure in heart involves having a singleness of heart toward God. A pure heart has no hypocrisy, no guile and no hidden motives. The pure heart is marked by transparency and an uncompromising desire to please God in all things…” Clean hands are free from evil deeds. The psalmist says, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). God is the One who makes our hearts pure through the sacrifice of His Son and His sanctifying work on the cross.
QUOTE: A pure heart has no hypocrisy.
CHALLENGE: Let your motives be pure.
PRAYER: O God, create a pure heart in me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
