DCLM Sincere Milk 18 April 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiA Soft Answer

Topic: A Soft Answer

Text: Proverbs 15:1-4

1A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

3The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Key Verse: “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” Proverbs 15:1

Message

Monica came into the class and found out that the books she left on the table were on the floor. She became so angry and began to shout at her class mates. Then one of them quickly apologized and explained that he mistakenly hit the table while playing in the class and he forgot to pick the books that dropped. His apology calmed her down and she was no more angry.

From the story, we see that “soft” explanation of Monica’s classmate calmed her down. According to our Bible passage, a soft answer turneth away wrath. The best approach to relate with an angry person is to first calm the person down by tendering an apology. If you respond with a harsh word it may lead to a fight. Therefore, as friends of Jesus, let your words be with grace, seasoned with salt so you can answer everyone in a proper way.

You should not be known for trouble in your class, community or church, but rather you should be a peacemaker. Any child that is known for trouble, is not a friend of Jesus; learn to use kind words today.

Prayer for today: Let my words be with grace and may I be an instrument of peace, oh Lord.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
