DCLM Sincere Milk 8 November 2022 — A wheat or tare?

DCLM Sincere Milk 8 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A wheat or tare?

TOPIC: A WHEAT OR A TARE?

BIBLE TEXT: MATTHEW 13:24-30

24Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

KEY VERSE: “Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn” (Matthew 13:30).

MESSAGE:

Wheat is the grain of a plant that is processed into flour, malt, semolina and other types of food. The tare on the other hand is a type of weed that looks like wheat in its early stage of growth.

From the story in our Bible passage, the wheat represents children who have repented of their sins and are living in obedience to God. Tares represent children who pretend to be friends of Jesus but live in sin. They know about Jesus but have not sincerely repented of their sins. Some of them go to church, give offering, sing in the choir, bear Christian names, have their names in the church register, but their names are not in the book of God in heaven.

Just like the sower in the Bible passage who knows and differentiates between the wheat and the tares, God knows those children who have repented of their sins and those who are living in sin. He will reward those who are His friends and punish those who refuse to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.

Are you a “wheat” or a “tare”? You can repent if you are yet to do so. Be sorry for your sins, confess them and ask God to forgive you and wash your sins away with the blood of Jesus. Be a wheat and not a tare.

PRAYER: Dear Father, I give You my heart. Wash me and make me Your friend now.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
