Topic: Added Years

Text: Proverbs 9:10-12

10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

Key Verse: “For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.” Proverbs 9:11

Message

Everyone wants to live long on earth. It is against the promise of God to die young. But Absalom, King David’s son, did not live long. And Judas Iscariot, Jesus’ disciple, did not live long either. There were some things common in their lives: they did not fear God and they lacked understanding of actions that increase days. God is the Giver of life. Any child who wants to live a long and meaningful life must follow God’s path to long life.

Our Bible passage says two things help to add to our years on earth
(i) The fear of God and
(ii) Understanding of God’s ways. Those who fear God receive the wisdom to avoid evil. The fear of God begins as you turn away from all your bad ways and ask Jesus to forgive you. You gain understanding to do what is right as you study and increase in the knowledge of the Word of God. You must daily watch, pray and overcome temptations to sin against God. The Lord will then add to your years.

Prayer for today: Lord, teach me to fear You, give me understanding of Your ways and help me to obey You always.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
