TOPIC: AFFIRM YOUR RIGHT TO ASK
TEXT: John 16:23-28.
24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
26At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
27For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
28I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
Memory Verse: “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:23, 24).
MESSAGE:
According to F. B. Mayer, “The greatest tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, but unoffered prayer.” In our text, our Lord Jesus Christ challenged His disciples, and by extension all believers, to ask whatsoever they desired from the Father in His name, with assurance of answer. What a blank cheque for every youth ready to draw from the unlimited treasures of heaven! God owns everything. There is no sincere prayer that God cannot answer. Are you ready to present your needs to God in prayer?
Dear friend, don’t live with your problems because of prayerlessness. Our Lord Jesus Christ has given you the right to ask the Father in His name, with assurance of answer. Claim your right and ask.
Pray for grace to live holy; pray for academic excellence, job opportunities and, salvation of loved ones. As you ask in faith in the name of Jesus, answers will come. Dear friend, if you have not received Christ, repent of your sins now and receive Him by faith. Then, you can be sure of answers to your prayers.
Quote: Pray for academic excellence
Challenge: Don’t live with your problems because of unoffered prayer.
Prayer: Help me Lord to present all my needs to You in prayer.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
