DCLM Higher Everyday 15 March 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Afraid? Never!

TOPIC: AFRAID? NEVER!

TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 20:15-22

15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

MEMORY VERSE: “And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 CHRONICLES 20:15).

MESSAGE:

Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, was confronted with a big challenge. He heard an unpleasant news. An army more numerous and mightier than his, was advancing to engage him in a battle. He found himself inadequate to engage such an army.

He succumbed to the first natural instinct of man when confronted with threat of danger, pain or harm. He became afraid. He feared when he considered the enemies’ strength and his own weakness. He did not reckon with the arm of the Lord. But he quickly corrected himself. He sought the face of God by resorting to prayer and fasting.

Then entered Jahaziel, the prophet, and delivered his sermon. He gave Jehoshaphat the antidote to fear. He directed the king’s gaze away from the mountain to the Mountain-Mover. He reminded him that, “the battle is not yours, but God’s.” The king believed. The battle was fought and the enemies were routed.

In every battle of life, faith in God will destroy fear of man. If you have God as your Rock, why must you be afraid?

QUOTE: The battle is not yours, but God’s.

CHALLENGE: Faith in God destroys fear of man.

PRAYER: Lord, be my Helper in times of trouble.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
