Topic: Allow Jesus To Care For You
Text: Psalm 23:1-6
1(A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Key Verse: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).
Message
We live in a world that trumps up personal freedom and liberty. We are taught by society to defend our fundamental human rights as individuals. What this simply means in plain terms, is to live without any check, to define and pursue our narrow self-interest and to disregard guidance and leading from any quarter. But a Christian who is so self-centred is on a downward slide that would inevitably end in disaster and heartache.

Recognising this, David surrendered his individual rights and preferences to God, and promptly embraced the protection that the Lord offered. He acknowledged the Lord as his Shepherd who had ensured that he did not lack anything good. He saw that God was guiding him to places where he would find refreshing sustenance. Whenever he went astray, God restored him to fellowship and led him on the path of integrity and righteousness. With time, he became confident that even if he faced death, he had no cause to be afraid because God was with him.

And like a true Shepherd, whether in rebuke and chastisement with the rod or under instruction and guidance with His staff, the Lord provided him with comfort at all times. God supplied his daily needs, even in the midst of hostile activities. In response, the psalmist extolled the virtues and beneficence of the Almighty God, and openly exclaimed to all who cared to listen, that, “surely, (God’s) goodness and mercy shall follow” him all his lifetime. In gratitude too, he vowed “to dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
For believers today, Jesus Christ is our Good Shepherd (John 10:11), Great Shepherd (Hebrews 13:20,21), and Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:4). He loves, cherishes and cares for us, provided that as disciples, we follow Him obediently and trustingly like sheep.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God is trustworthy; you can always depend on Him.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
