DCLM Sincere Milk  13 May 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiAn Empty Threat

Topic: An Empty Threat

Text: 1 Kings 20:1-4

1And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

2And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad,

3Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.

4And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

Key Verse: “Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.” 1 Kings 20:3

Message

Little Thomas lived in a quiet village with his Christian parents and older siblings. There was in that village a herbalist who was fond of threatening the villagers. The man would dare everyone and threaten to afflict them with strange diseases. The villagers feared the man and did everything they could to avoid him. Thomas once suggested to his parents that they moved to another village because he was tired of the man. “Thomas, you should know that we are Christians and no wicked man can do anything to children of God; and his threats are mere empty threats that cannot be backed up with action”, his father responded.

Like Benhadad, the devil and his agents enjoy deceiving people into believing that they have unlimited power and can control everyone. The devil is an enemy of people and a slave master who has nothing good to offer anyone who is under his slavery. He is a liar and the father of lies. He uses threats to subdue people and make believers fear him. Christians on the other hand are not under Satan’s control and thus cannot surrender to his threats and boasting. They consider his threats to be empty and powerless.

As you set to start a new day, you should maintain a close relationship with God, study His word, and be vigilant and prayerful in order to keep the devil in check and make him realize that you are not in his camp. God will give you victory all the time.

Prayer for today: Father, please protect me from fiery threats of the devil.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
