Topic: Anger: A Negative Quality
Text: Proverbs 22:20-25
20Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
23For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
24Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
25Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
Key Verse: “Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go” (Proverbs 22:24).
Message
Fred encountered a routine traffic jam while driving on the highway. The policeman merely did his job by stopping him, but Fred was extremely angry at being stopped for traffic convenience. He was so furious that suddenly he began to convulse right there on the highway. What started as mere anger rapidly degenerated into a life-threatening situation. Fred could not continue his journey under the circumstance, he had to be helped back home. Embarrassingly, the situation revealed his medical condition- he was epileptic.
Anger is just one letter short of danger; and it can shorten one’s life span as it raises the blood pressure due to some biological reactions in the body. Our Lord Jesus said that the angry man is in danger of judgment. He is closer to the devil than God; and to hell than heaven. On the social level, anger shrinks your circle of friends – it isolates you. The cure for anger is simple: let Jesus into your heart. He can save one from all sins and their roots. You can be saved now if you are yet to.
Quote: The cure for anger is simple
Challenge: Unconquered anger rides you like a horse.
Prayer for today: Dear Jesus, reign within me with your peace. Amen.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
