Topic: Attitude To World Affairs
Text: 1 John 2:15-17
15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Key Verse: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15).
Message
The hand of the clock has been used to describe three categories of believers. Twelve o’clock Christians are so heavenly conscious but of no earthly use. Half past six o’clock Christians are buried in the world and have lost the vision of heaven. The six o’clock believers are Christians who are of significance on earth and yet heavenly minded. The significance of salt as flavour is not felt when it is isolated from food items. It is not eaten as food all on its own. The worth of salt is acknowledged when it is used as flavour. So are believers. We are the salt of the earth. While we insulate ourselves from the pollutions of the world and live as pilgrims, we should equally exact positive influence on the world.
Christian youths can influence their world in various clubs in schools; examples include: Press Club, Junior Engineers, Technologists and Scientists, Young Farmers Club, and Red Cross Society – to shine the gospel light. Qualified youths should exercise their franchise during elections as responsible citizens. We cannot isolate ourselves from the society – impact it positively.
Quote: Exact positive influence on the world
Challenge: Don’t isolate but insulate against the world.
Prayer for today: Father, help me to be a blessing to the world.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
