DCLM Sincere Milk 20 March 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Avoid distractions
TOPIC: AVOID DISTRACTIONS
TEXT: JOHN 6:10-15
10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
Key Verse: “When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone” (John 6:15).
MESSAGE
No matter how great the dream and desire anyone may have, without focus, not much would be achieved. Distraction is a great enemy you must avoid if your godly desires and dreams would ever come to pass. The opportunities and the gifts you have would not matter, if you allow distraction.
How many times has daddy and mommy warned you to read your book instead of watching cartoons? Don’t you know you can do better in your studies if you give more attention to it? You possibly would have been better at playing that musical instrument if not for distraction. To be all that God wants you to be, you must not allow distraction.
Jesus Christ focused on the reason why He came into this world and did not allow Himself to be distracted. The Bible records that Jesus had to leave the people who wanted to take away His attention from achieving God’s purpose. Joseph had a great dream and did not allow temptation to do evil “steal” from him that dream of getting to the top.
Making bad children your best friends would distract you from your goal of living to please God. Distracting others or allowing someone to distract you from listening to the word of God in the church would rob you of God’s blessings. Refuse to be distracted.
Prayer: Dear Father, help me to always say “No” to any form of distraction so that I can be all You want me to be, in Jesus’ Name.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
