DCLM Sincere Milk  27 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiAvoid Jehoshaphat’s Mistake – Part 1

Topic: Avoid Jehoshaphat’s Mistake – Part 1

Text: 2 Chronicles 18:1-6

1Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.

2And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead.

3And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.

4And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

5Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.

6But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?

Key Verse: “Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.” 2 Chronicles 18:1

Message

Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance because he served God and obeyed His commandments like David. Anybody who serves God and walks in His righteous way will enjoy unlimited success. Unfortunately, Jehoshaphat went into friendship with the wicked King Ahab. He became close to him and agreed to go to war with him. God was not happy with the attitude of King Jehoshaphat because God expected him, as a righteous king, to separate himself from the wicked and evil Ahab. We can be friends to our school mates, people in our community, but not to the extent of joining their evil deeds.

We should be careful in our relationship with anyone who has made himself or herself an enemy of God like King Ahab. When God has made us successful in life, we should serve Him the more and reject anything He hates.

Prayer for today: God, please help me to serve You more and remain separate from evil.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
