DCLM Sincere Milk 11 August 2024 — Be Different
DCLM Sincere Milk 11 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Be Different
Topic: Be Different
Text: 1 Samuel 2:12-18
12Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.
14And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
15Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
16And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
17Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.
18But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
Key Verse: “But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.” 1 Samuel 2:18
Message
Little Samuel lived a godly life in the midst of wicked and corrupt sons of Eli. The sons of Eli abused the privilege of the office of priest of their father and God was displeased with them. Samuel grew up in this corrupt environment; yet, ministered to the Lord in holiness of life. He refused to copy the evil practices of the bad boys.
The godly life of the young Samuel in Eli’s house despite the ungodly influences of the sons of Eli is a great challenge to every child of God today. We are to be different and distinct. Do not succumb to the pressure of evil practices around you.

The more the society gets corrupted, the more a believer is expected to shine the light of Jesus through holiness, honesty and transparent life. No excuse is acceptable before God for joining the evil practices in the world. It is a ‘must’ for a believer to be different and distinct in character and attitude. You are not like them because Jesus Christ paid the price to redeem you from sin and corruption. Let your life brighten the corner where you are.

Prayer for today: Help me God to remain uncorrupted in the midst of the corruption and defilement in the world.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
