DCLM Higher Everyday 14 December 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Be found faithful 1
TOPIC: BE FOUND FAITHFUL – 1
TEXT: MATTHEW 25:14-18
15And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
16Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
17And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
MEMORY VERSE: “And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey” (MATTHEW 25:15).
MESSAGE:
The eminent female lawyer, Folake Solanke, in an interview with The Guardian in 1996 said, “Whatever talents we have, we must make sure we do not fritter them away, but we must cultivate them and use them to the optimum not only for ourselves, but for others.”
God gives gifts and talents to all His children as He wishes. He knows everyone perfectly. No Christian youth should feel superior to others because they are multi-talented. Neither should anyone feel inferior for being seemingly less gifted.
Everyone should be contented with their allotment of gifts by God and strive to make the best use of them. The two servants were given the same commendation, “Good and faithful servant,” and received commensurate rewards because reward is not by number of talents but by their faithful use.
All believers are expected to put their talents to use for the edification of the Church and advancement of the kingdom of God. To use God-given talents for self-interest is tantamount to rebellion against God. Focus on your talents and be faithful to God in their use.
QUOTE: God gives gifts and talents to all.
CHALLENGE: Make the best use of your God-given talents.
PRAYER: Oh God, I thank you for the talents you gave to me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
