Text: 1 King 17:1-6
1And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
3Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
6And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
Key Verse: “And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.” 1 King 17:6
Message
Raven refers to any of the ten species of heavy dark birds, larger than crows. Both ravens and crows are species of the same family. The raven’s lustrous feathers also have a blue or purplish colour. The common raven is the largest of the perching birds. It reaches a length of up to 66cm and has a wing pan of more than 1.3 metres.

Like other members of the family, the raven is a noisy and aggressive bird whose diet includes rodents (rats, snakes etc.), insects, grain and birds’ eggs. Scientific studies have found that common ravens can learn, solve problem, recognize individual humans and use tools. They interact playfully with each other as well as with other animals. Common ravens are especially good at communicating. They can mimic (imitate) the calls of other birds species. Those that are caged have the ability to learn a little human sounds and speech. The call of common raven has a low tone and is often described as “creaking”.
God in His awesome wisdom put all these characteristics in the raven. This was the reason He chose the birds to perform a very important assignment in 1 Kings 17:4. You may wonder where the ravens got the food they brought to Elijah? Who cooked the food and where was it prepared? It is a mystery and also a confirmation of the fact that God can do all things. All creatures, big and small are made by God. He can do whatsoever He wills with them. You are God’s special creature, surrender your life to Him so that He can use you to fulfill His purpose on earth, like the raven, take the food for the soul (gospel) to the sinners around you.

Prayer for today: Lord, use me to fulfill Your purpose for my life.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
