DCLM Sincere Milk 31 March 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Bible Animal – Sheep
Topic: Bible Animal – Sheep
Text: John 10:11-16
11I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
13The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
Key Verse: “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” John 10:11
Message
The stories of animals in the Bible demonstrate God’s care for all living creatures and provide us important lessons of faith, obedience and service. The sheep is a four-footed animal and it is a ruminant. They are found all over the world and provide good protein for humans. The hair is also used in the textile industry.

In the Bible, sheep are often used as a figure of speech or proverbs for believers and followers of Jesus Christ. Just like sheep, we are called to be obedient to our shepherd, who is Jesus Himself. We are to listen to His voice and follow Him wherever He leads us. One of the most well-known passages about sheep is found in Psalm 23, where David writes, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” This beautiful imagery reminds us of the care and guidance that our shepherd provides for us.
In the New Testament, Jesus refers to Himself as the Good Shepherd in John 10:11, saying, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” This verse emphasizes Jesus’ sacrificial love for His friends. As believers, we can take comfort in knowing that our shepherd watches over us, protects us, and guides us in the path of righteousness. Just as sheep trust their shepherd, we must place our trust in Jesus, knowing that He will never lead us astray.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to remain a sheep under Your care.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
