TOPIC: CARE TO BE CARED FOR
BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 18:1-10
2The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
3And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
4And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
6And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.
7And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.
8And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.
MEMORY VERSE: “And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts: after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said” (GENESIS 18:5).
MESSAGE:
In the words of Leo Buscaglia, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Caring is one of the most important and personally rewarding roles a person can play in their lifetime. Interestingly, caring does not just have a positive impact on those who receive care, but also on those who provide care. Caring breeds love, reduces depression, and leads to higher life-satisfaction.
Remember that if you care for others, your relationship with them will be strengthened. In our text, Abraham cared for the three men who appeared in his tent by giving them water to wash their feet and food to eat. That singular act of care brought the good news of Sarah conceiving and bearing a child at their old age. Do not let an opportunity to care for others pass you by, because caring is a special opportunity to gain temporal and eternal rewards.
QUOTE: Caring is a special opportunity
PRAYER: Father, teach me to always care for others.
CHALLENGE: Caring is a mark of love.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
