Topic: Caring For The Needy

Text: Deuteronomy 15:7-11

7If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

8But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.

9Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

10Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

11For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Key Verse: “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.” Deuteronomy 15:11

Message

During the time of the early church, the brethren were known as Christ’s followers because of the way they cared for one another. A man named Barnabas was the first to sell his landed property. He then gave the proceeds to the leaders of the church to take care of the needs of the brethren. At a particular time, there was serious need in the church. The brethren contributed lots of things and sent them to the needy.

They did all things together, and there was no one that lacked anything. Jesus still desire that we care for the needy. It is a command from God, when you care for the needy, you are indirectly showing your love and affection to the Lord. The needy are everywhere around us, in your school, church and in our neighbourhood.

We can follow Jesus’ example of caring for the needy to care for them in the following ways: pray for them, share what you have with them, take permission from your parents and give them those clothes and shoes you have over grown (the ones that are still good), help your classmates to carry their school bag after school when they fall sick. Sinners are in great need of Salvation, prayerfully share the gospel with them so that they can be saved.

Prayer for today: God help me to care for the needy around me.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
