CHILDREN: GOD’S GREAT GIFT
TEXT: PSALM 127:1-5
2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
MEMORY VERSE: “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (PSALM 127:3).
“Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless…?” (Genesis 15:2), was the cry of Abraham who was in need of a child. Parents go the extra mile to take care of their children because they acknowledge the fact that God gave them children and made them caretakers.
Every child is a miracle from above, including you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made; no one is born like you, and no one will ever be. So, cherish your individuality.
Children are a great support like arrows in the hand of a mighty man and defence to a family if the arrows are directed rightly. They are marks of God’s glory and service to their generations. However, ungodly or misguided children are daggers in the hearts of their parents, and sources of grief to them.
What type of child are you? Are you an encouragement to your parents or a bundle of sorrow and anguish to them? Repent and become a good child to make your earthly parents and God happy and make heaven at last.
QUOTE: Every child is a miracle from above.
CHALLENGE: Are you a grief or a gift to your parents?
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be a blessing to my parents. Amen.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
