TOPIC: Choices (DCLM Daily Manna 19 April 2022)
TEXT: Jeremiah 17:19-27 (KJV)
19 Thus said the Lord unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;
20 And say unto them, Hear ye the word of the Lord, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:
21 Thus saith the Lord; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
22 Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.
23 But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.
24 And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the Lord, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;
25 Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever.
26 And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the Lord.
27 But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.
KEY VERSE: “But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.” – (Jeremiah 17:23)
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
God, in His infinite wisdom, created man and gave him the freedom to make decisions. For every decision, there are always options and man must choose what to do. Sometimes, the choices are simply between good and bad. For every choice we make, there is always a consequence. Whatever choice man decides to make ultimately comes back to determine his final destination!

God sent Prophet Jeremiah to remind the Israelites of their negative habit of rejecting His instructions and the consequences of rebellion in their lives. He was also to remind them of the benefits that they would derive by obeying His words. The history of the Jewish nation confirms how their choices brought unpalatable consequences upon them.
Essentially, the quest for freedom and independence has made man a victim of his choices. Adam and Eve chose the serpent’s advice against God’s and they lost the garden. Abraham chose to walk with God and became the father of nations. Joseph rejected the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife and landed in prison; but he was lifted to prominence. Judas chose thirty pieces of silver above his relationship with Jesus and he ended his life prematurely.
As you go about your activities today, remember that every choice you make will attract commensurate consequence. Disobedience is a choice. No one can compel you to disobey God against your will. Neither can anyone force you to serve God faithfully unless you want to. The choice to obey or disobey is solely yours.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
You are the product of the choices you make.
THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Psalm 105-106

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
