Topic: Christian Pilgrim’s Hallmark

Text: Psalm 24:1-6

1(A Psalm of David.) The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

2For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

Key Verse: “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully” (Psalm 24:3-4).

Message

No doubt holiness and heaven are a twin-pact and both are the core Christian hallmark. When we throw cautions about holiness and heaven to the wind or make them options instead in our Christian lives, then our profession and religion become nominal, worthless, empty and inconsequential.

According to Leonard Ravenhill, “Holiness is not a luxury, it is a necessity. If you are not holy, you will never make it to heaven.” Pilgrims on earth are supposed to be conscious daily that their citizenship is in heaven. Therefore, believers’ lifestyles in general should be tailored towards heaven. People like John Wesley and Matthew Henry made holiness and heaven their Christian hallmark as pilgrims. If we do not make holiness and heaven our hallmark in this journey, then, the Christian life is not worth living. The journey of holiness begins with being born again. It is at that point our sins can be forgiven and the grace to live a holy life can be given to us. To be born again, you need to repent of your sins and accept Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Quote: Their citizenship is in heaven

Challenge: Make holiness and heaven a priority.

Prayer for today: Lord, make my utmost daily desire to be holiness and heaven.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
