DCLM Sincere Milk 11 March 2025 — Christ’s Power To Forgive

DCLM Sincere Milk 11 March 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Christ’s Power To Forgive

Topic: Christ’s Power To Forgive

Text: Matthew 9:2-7

2And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

3And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

4And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

5For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

6But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

7And he arose, and departed to his house.

Key Verse: “But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins,” Matthew 9:6a

Message

To be cast down means to be discouraged, to lose hope; not expecting that any good thing will come out of a particular situation. This is a strategy from Satan to make friends of Jesus not to achieve what they are supposed to achieve. The story is told of a 10-year-old friend of Jesus who became discouraged because his grades were dropping in school. He made a lot of efforts, but things did not improve with his academic performance. One day in church, his teacher taught them using the above Bible passage.

This made them know that God understands what all His children pass through every time. He reminded them that He expects them to call on Him when they are discouraged. They must also search their lives, maybe they have displeased God. It was then the discouraged boy remembered that he had been leaving many important things undone- studying, praying, reading his Bible, attending fellowship regularly and punctually. He had been doing them, but not very well as he used do. He immediately made up his mind to become diligent in all these once again. He prayed and promised God and himself that he will do better. God answered his prayer and his academics performance improved tremendously. The major reason why Jesus came into this world was to die for the sins of every boy and girl. No one on earth has the power to forgive sins, only Jesus has the power.

According to our Bible passage, a paralyzed man was brought to Jesus for healing. Immediately Jesus said to him “Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee”. The people around him were surprised that Christ did not immediately pray for the sick man but rather asked that his sins be forgiven him. This is because the origin of sickness and diseases is sin. The sinner has to first be forgiven before healing can come to the body.

If you remain in your sins, you cannot receive healing from sickness, success in examination, protection from all evil, promotion, provision, prosperity and finally eternal life. Repentance is the only key to unlocking God’s blessings, that is the only way Christ can have fellowship with you. Repent today and do not let the purpose while Christ came into this world be defeated in your life.

Prayer for today: Lord, I do not want the purpose why You came to the world to be defeated in my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
