DCLM Higher Everyday 7 November 2024 — Consecration And Condescension
DCLM Higher Everyday 7 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Consecration And Condescension
Topic: Consecration And Condescension
Text: Romans 12:9-18
9Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
11Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
12Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
13Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
15Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Key Verse: “Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits” (Romans 12:16).
Message
Consecration is a complete surrender of ourselves to the lordship of Jesus Christ. In consecration, we surrender all to God – our talent, time and treasure. This motivated the hymn writer, Frances Ridley Harvergal to sing:
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated Lord to thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Ministers of God such as David Livingstone, and Mary Slessor left their medical career in England for mission work in Africa because of their consecration to Christ.
The consecrated can truly condescend to men of low estate. Mary Slessor interacted freely with the Calabar natives, eating with them their native foods. It is no wonder that she was able to stop the killing of twin babies there. She condescended in love to the level of the illiterate indigenous people and brought many to Christ. Christians are transformed to live the new life by the power of God’s love. Such love spurs us on to love others and offer ourselves up as living sacrifices to the Lord.
Quote: Surrender all to God
Challenge: You must stoop to win souls.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to consecrate all to you.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
