DCLM Higher Everyday 21 January 2024 — Create Room for Counselling

DCLM Higher Everyday 21 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Create Room for Counselling

TOPIC: Create Room for Counselling

TEXT: PROVERBS 11:12-14

12He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

13A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

14Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

MEMORY VERSE: “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14).

Counselling is very important to every human being because it provides needed information and guide for making sound decisions. It is usually a professional giving help on personal or psychological matters. Counselling can be an antidote to problems or a springboard to excellent performance in a given task. Counselling comes in particular from God through His Word, the Holy Spirit and His other means of guidance. “It’s safe to trust God’s methods, and to go by His clock,” said S. D. Gordon. The question is, do you seek counselling in your endeavours? Benjamin Franklin, a former president of America said, “He that won’t be counselled can’t be helped.”

Friend, it is true, “…in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Let Jesus come into your life, and you will have the grace to accept counsel from godly parents, professional counsellors, and Church ministers. Regrets set in when counsel is not accepted in education, career, Church ministry and social relationships; it can even lead to everlasting regret in hell fire. So, ensure you belong to Jesus, read the Bible, meditate on it and pray always.

QUOTE: Have the grace to accept the counsel

PRAYER: Lord, give me counsellors after your own heart.

CHALLENGE: Receive counsel and press on.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
