DCLM Daily Manna 20 September 2023 — Danger of anger
DCLM Daily Manna 20 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Danger of anger
Topic: Danger of anger
Text: Proverbs 19:10-20
10Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
17He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
18Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
19A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
KEY VERSE: “A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again” (Proverbs 19:19).
MESSAGE
Moses was a man of God who led the Israelites out of Egypt. The Bible says he “was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth”; but this great man of God got pressured into a fit of anger. Apart from breaking the tables of stone that contained the writing of God, in anger, Moses struck the rock, contrary to divine instruction in the wilderness that required him to speak to it to bring forth water for the people to drink. Because of these, Moses did not complete the job of taking the Israelites to the Promised Land.

The Scripture passage for meditation today contains several truths, one of which is that anger attracts punishment and loss. It takes good discretion for anyone to avoid anger and overlook an offence. People of great wrath make a lot of dangerous mistakes that can cost even their lives. We are also enjoined to help the poor for whoever gives to them lends to the Lord. As we know, the Lord owes no man and will repay anyone who provides assistance to the poor. For parents, it is your responsibility to discipline your children while there is still time and hope. Doing otherwise will ruin their lives and cause you regrets.

Several great men and women have destroyed their lives and destinies due to anger and bad temper, which are reflections of the depraved nature of man. Great wrath aborts dreams, causes hardship, breaks friendships and leads to death and destruction.
Are you easily provoked? Do something about it today. Go to the cross and the Lord will help you destroy that old nature. It is cancerous; do not let it linger.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Anger dies when self is crucified.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
