Topic: Danger Of Outward Righteousness
Text: Matthew 23:23-28
23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Key Verse: “Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” Matthew 23:28
Message
God knows everything. He sees everything, nothing is hidden from Him. People might fool each other, but they cannot fool God. While humans see only the outside, God sees what is inside our hearts. God does not like it when people pretend to be something they are not. He wants us to be honest and true.

Living a fake life can mean pretending to be good and righteous when the heart is filled with sinful desires. It can also mean acting one way in the presence of your family members and friends, but doing bad things when no one is looking at you – like using drugs or engaging in other bad things. Some people fake being smart by cheating in school. Others always try to fit in with their friends, even if it means changing who they are. And some lie or trick people to avoid getting into trouble or to get what they want. As a friend of Jesus, God wants you to be genuine, upright and honest. A life of integrity, truthfulness, inward and outward holiness will attract God’s bountiful blessings.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, guide me to always be truthful and sincere.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
