DCLM Daily Manna 6 November 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Closer Home Than Ever
TOPIC: Closer Home Than Ever (DCLM Daily Manna 6 November 2021)
TEXT: Romans 13:8-14 (KJV)
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
🔑📖KEY VERSE: “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed” (ROMANS 13:11).
MESSAGE:
An industrialist, who was said to have sunk all his prized investments in a search for oil in a field he had acquired, did not know how close he was to hitting the treasures of his request. He must have explored the entire land with the aid of the most advanced technology of the time without locating the black gold. Frustrated, he sold the field. It did not take the new owner much labour and time to discover the oil the previous landlord had missed.

This tale is often told to teach the moral of longsuffering and perseverance in expectation of the fulfilment of good promises. For Christians in this generation waiting for our Lord’s return, we are called upon to wear these attributes like a garment. Halfway in the 13th chapter of his epistle to the Romans, Apostle Paul delivers a spiritual advisory to help us understand that the coming of our Lord is nearer than we think. If we fully grasp this revelation, we shall work more for the Saviour and not allow room for despondency.
Paul challenges the truly expectant redeemed to leave his closet and come out into the open where the world would observe him display his preparation for his Lord through loving his neighbours like himself, walking honestly, rejecting strife and envying and above all, refusing to make “provision for the flesh.”
The believer so thoroughly immersed in the Lord and in His word would have the world and its discouraging distractions distant from him and make heaven closer. If you trudge on day and night, with the unyielding faith that your “salvation [is] nearer than when [you] believed,” you will not give in and sell off your birthright. As you go out today, accomplish something new for the Lord to lead others to Him.
✍🏽THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Christ’s return is imminent, preach the Word.

MEDITATION
THE TRUE EVIDENCES OF LOVE BRINGING OTHERS TO CHRIST
1. The law of love
a. The law is meant to govern our relationships so that we lead a harmoniously happy and healthy life, v10.
b. Even though some divine laws may not be pleasant to the natural man, they are needful for a collective good of all, v9b.
c. Obedience to the law is evidenced by love and vice-versa. Thus we agree with Paul that “we know the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just and good”, Romans 7:12.
d. This any attempt by man to change or modify divine laws is a surrender to the corrupted nature of man to wrongly redefine what love means and nobody can define love better than God👌
2. Living The life of love
a. Love is not sentimental, it is a lifestyle.
b. Love takes the pains to obey the commandments of God without leaving any undone, v9. This makes it easy to check whether you love your neighbours or not 🤷♂️
c. True Love does not do wrong or hurt his neighbour v10.
d. Any necessary love actions that will hurt or bring pain will be done in love that the receiver will see the love behind it, v10.
e. The degree of our spirituality and readiness for eternal abode with God is determined by the intensity and the perfection of our love to our neighbours👌 vv11,12.
3. The lust against love
a. Incidentally, many things the human corrupted nature exhibit as love is described as lust or the works of darkness in the word of God, v13.
b. “Smart dishonesty” to help a neighbour, partying spirits where drunkeness, wantoness, immorality, strife, merry making, revelling etc are nurtured in the name of friendship or neighbourliness are all against the true love of God. They will also serve as hindrances to preparation for eternal bliss with God, v13.
c. Indulging in any act of lust is tantamount to making “provision for the flesh” in preparation to fulfil the lusts of the flesh, v14. This indicates that though they may appear innocent but they will lead to falling to the lusts of the flesh. So avoid them totally.🚶♂️🚶♂️🚶♂️
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, write the law of true love in my heart and cleanse me from all lusts🙏
2. Lord, give me the grace to totally cut off from friendly activities that amount to making provision for the flesh🙏
3. Lord, help me to be careful to keep all the laws of love 🙏
4. Lord, let the Spirit of true love reign in our midst as your children🙏
HYMN
LOVE FOUND A WAY
1. Wonderful love that rescued me,
Sunk deep in sin,
Guilty and vile as I could be
No hope within;
When ev’ry ray of light had fled,
O glorious day!
Raising my soul from out the dead,
Love found a way.
Refrain:
Love found a way to redeem my soul,
Love found a way that could make me whole;
Love sent my Lord to the cross of shame,
Love found a way, O praise His holy name!
2. Love bro’t my Saviour here to die
On Calvary,
For such a sinful wretch as I,
How can it be?
Love bridged the gulf ‘twixt me and Heav’n,
Taught me to pray;
I am redeemed, set free, forgiv’n,
Love found a way.
Refrain
3. Love opened wide the gates of light
To Heav’n’s domain,
Where in eternal pow’r and might
Jesus shall reign;
Love lifted me from depths of woe
To endless day,
There was no help in earth below,
Love found a way.
Refrain

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
