DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 25 NOVEMBER 2021 — Beware of Strange Fire
DCLM Higher Everyday 25 November 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Beware of Strange Fire
TOPIC: BEWARE OF STRANGE FIRE
TEXT: NUMBERS 3:1-4
1 These also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spake with Moses in mount Sinai.
2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests which were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest’s office.
4 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father.
MEMORY VERSE: “And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father” (NUMBERS 3:4).
MESSAGE
Talking about strange fire, John F. MacArthur Jr. said, “It is a sad twist of irony that those who claim to be most focused on the Holy Spirit are in actuality the ones doing the most to abuse, grieve, insult, misrepresent, quench, and dishonour Him…”
The words “strange fire” are used in connection with the fatal sin committed by Nadab and Abihu, the two oldest sons of Aaron, who elevated themselves by choosing to offer strange fire before the Lord (Leviticus 10:1, 2), thereby rejecting the Scripture. By disobeying God, their darkest fate was that they died prematurely without fulfilling God’s purpose for them.
As a youth, do not offer strange fire in the school fellowship by preaching false doctrine or being part of any strange worship. True worship is scarce in many assemblies today. You must be careful so as not to be lured into such so called Christian assemblies which are idol temples in the real sense.
Do not exalt yourself above God’s authority as revealed in the Scripture, but strive to be humble before Him.
QUOTE: Do not offer strange fire.
CHALLENGE: Do not reject or toy with the Scripture.
PRAYER: O God, help me to humble myself before You.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
