DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 3 DECEMBER 2021 — Faithful and God Fearing
DCLM Higher Everyday 3 DECEMBER 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Serve God and Be Served
TOPIC: FAITHFUL AND GOD-FEARING
TEXT: NEHEMIAH 7:1-6
1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,
2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.
3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.
4 Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.
5 And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,
6 These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;
MEMORY VERSE: “That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many” (NEHEMIAH 7:2).
MESSAGE:
Desiring to serve God in His vineyard is a noble decision. But, one must be God-fearing and faithful. The essence of a good selection process in the choice of leadership is to ensure that genuine and committed people, whose passion is to serve God with sincerity, are brought to limelight to serve God with all the spiritual endowments God has bestowed on them.
Nehemiah appointed workers who would serve the Lord in His vineyard. He appointed his brother, Hanani, to be in charge of Jerusalem. His decision was not based on affinity but on faithfulness and readiness to serve on the part of the appointee. He also entrusted the city to Hananiah whom he described as a man who was faithful and God-fearing.
You too can be appointed to serve in the school fellowship or in your local church assembly if you are faithful and holy. To be used in God’s house and in the world at large, the Christian youth must seek to please God first by yielding his or her life totally to God through genuine repentance.
QUOTE: You can be appointed.
CHALLENGE: Are you faithful in all things?
PRAYER: Lord, put Your fear in my heart while I serve You all my days.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
