Text: Acts 16:16-22
16And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
18And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
19And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

Message
Evil spirits sometimes possess human or animal creatures. Most times take control of the personality speaking through them or moving them to act abnormally. At other times the people they possess mix-up with normal people, difficult to detect except by the spirit gift of discernment. However, their identity are commonly proven by their activities. Their subtle dwelling in a person may cause serious ailment which no medical diagnosis can discover.

When Jesus sent out His disciples, He gave them authority to cast out devils and reverse their evil works. Therefore true believers neither fear demons nor associate with their agents in clubs, drama and any form of ceremonies. Some young people have been possessed through visits to shrines and occult places. The devil in the damsel manifested counterfeit gift of the spirit for her masters’ profit. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try every spirit whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1). By the authority vested in Apostle Paul he rebuked the controlling demon in that girl. The devil came out. She became free and normal without demonic manipulations.

Challenge: You can cast out devils.
Prayer for today: Oh God, empower me to cast out devils in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
