DCLM Sincere Milk 9 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Diligently Hearken
TOPIC: DILIGENTLY HEARKEN
DEUTERONOMY 28:1
Key Verse: “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth” (Deuteronomy 28:1).
MESSAGE:
At the end of the school session, during the prize giving day activities, Mattias turned out to be the best student in academics, sports and extracurricular activities. All the resource persons who had interacted with him commended and spoke highly of him.
What was the secret? Mattias excelled because he was determined right from the beginning that he would diligently hearken to all that he would be told, work hard and not be distracted. To hearken is to listen, while to be diligent is to be careful and persevere in carrying out anything you do. You too can be like Mattias and do much more by the grace of God.
The starting point is by first obeying Jesus’ command to be born-again. This is the bedrock of great success. Surrender your life to Jesus by repenting of your bad doings – lying, stealing, stubbornness and cheating.

Ask for forgiveness and cleansing in Jesus’ blood. Ask Jesus to live in your heart as your Saviour and Lord, and for grace to be like Him. Then, you will be reading, studying and meditating on God’s word to make your way prosperous and have good success.
In addition, pray always, separate yourself from distractions and bad friends. Be determined that your life will be a shining example to emulate and draw others to Jesus. Diligently harken and you will be a peculiar treasure to God.
Prayer: Oh God, in Your love and mercy, bless and make me a special child of Yours as I diligently hearken unto all Your commandments.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
