TOPIC: DISCIPLINE AND DILIGENCE

TEXT:JOHN 9:1-9

1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

8 The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

9 Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.

MEMORY VERSE: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (JOHN 9:4).

MESSAGE:

Jesus Christ exemplified all the principles of success. He expressed a strong interest in His God-given assignment. He called it “my meat.” This is desire. As soon as He began His earthly ministry, He identified His main objective – “to seek and save that which was lost.” This is determination. He was committed to that one task, “the works of him that sent me.” This is discipline.

He was ready to exert Himself, spend and be spent – “I must work.” This is diligence. He drew His strength from the resources provided by His Father in heaven – “The Son can do nothing of himself.” This is dependence. No wonder within a space of three and a half years, His work was done and He declared, “It is finished.”

True success in any endeavour would be a mirage or mere wishful thinking without application of these time-tested principles. A youth who is craving for a resounding and lasting success in life cannot do without discipline. He must be ready to subdue self, control his desires and say no to certain comforts in order to achieve his set goals.

QUOTE: Be ready to subdue self.

CHALLENGE: Success is a mirage without discipline and diligence.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be diligent.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
