DCLM Sincere Milk 19 June 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Don’t Follow Them
Topic: Don’t Follow Them
Text: Exodus 23:1-5
2Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:
3Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.
4If thou meet thine enemy’s ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.
5If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.
Key Verse: “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:” Exodus 23:2
Message
Mrs. Manties was surprised by the new style of crying her one-year-old girl has adopted since their visit to her neighbour. She discovered that her child now imitates the method of crying of the neighbour’s son. She watched her for a few days and then decided to stop her daughter from that bad habit. One thing that is bad in the life of children is that, they easily copy the character of one another. A way is not right just because many people follow it. Neither is the attitude right because everyone practices it. God gave a serious warning to us in His word that we should not follow evil practices because many people do them.
In some schools, cheating has become an acceptable way of getting ‘success’. For a Christian child, cheating is a sin before God. Therefore, you must not join them to cheat during examination no matter the pressure. Do not join them in their rioting, partying, disobedience and worldly pursuit. Stand for Christ even if you have to stand alone. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not join the multitude to eat food sacrificed to idols, God honoured their faith that they became ten-times-better than their peers. If you stand for Jesus, He will honour you.

Prayer for today: I will not follow the ways of the evil doers. Lord, help me to do Your will always.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
