DCLM Sincere Milk 7 October 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Don’t Sell Your Birthright
Topic: Don’t Sell Your Birthright
Text: Genesis 25: 29- 34
29And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:
30And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.
31And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.
32And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?
33And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
Key Verse: “And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.” Genesis 25:31
Message
Esau and Jacob were twin brothers. Esau, being the eldeer son of Isaac should have inherited the blessings meant for the first born but he was greedy and carefree. One day, he came home very tired and hungry. He was so famished that he could give anything to have a plate of food. Jacob had prepared some steaming hot, delicious pottage. Esau asked if he could have some, but Jacob told him he would give him if he agreed to sell his birthright to him. He foolishly agreed without thinking about the possible consequences.
Many boys and girls today also despise their salvation, godly teachings and trainings, chastity, Christian dressing, character and attitude and get carried away by the influence of friends to get involved in immorality, worldly dressing, uncontrolled appetite, lack of self-control and negative attitudes. Esau later became more like a servant to Jacob as he lost his godly inheritance – Birthright. He cried bitterly later to have it back, but it was too late. Beware and never you sell your birthright – salvation, sanctification and Christian lifestyles. Eternal inheritance awaits you.

Prayer for today: Lord, give me courage to stand up and defend my godly heritage.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
