Topic: Fabulous Fatherly Advice
Text: Proverbs 4:20-27
20My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
MEMORY VERSE: “My son, attend to my words, incline thy ear unto my sayings” (Proverbs 4:20).
MESSAGE
In an ancient Hebrew family, the father had the maximum authority and was accorded the most respect of all the family members, why? He had the most responsibility to rule, guide, provide, and protect the family from harm. Therefore, all the members of the family were to submit to the father, obey his instructions and honour him. This is the biblical pattern in the ancient Hebrew family. Solomon the wisest man on earth, having experienced so much about life sits as a father to admonish young people. The word “Son” used here encompasses both genders and the wisdom shared is for us all to live by.

Youths are admonished to ensure total submission to God and His word by accepting Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour. They should also observe, obey and support their father’s ministries. Franklin Graham, Kenneth Hagen Jr, and Ruth Elton all worked alongside their fathers in the mission work from childhood and continued with the work even after their fathers had gone to glory. God assumes responsibility for all who obey and worship Him. Happy Father’s Day!
QUOTE: Seek first the kingdom of God.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to hearken to godly fatherly advice.
CHALLENGE: Be guided by God’s words!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
