Topic: Fishers Of Men

Text: Matthew 4:17-20

17From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

Key Verse: “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19

Message

Do you love to go fishing? The possibility of catching a big one can be very exciting. You will love the experience, it is always a wonderful time whether you catch anything or not.

The Bible reveals the thoughts of Christ on the meaning of fishing. The key verse states “And he saith unto them, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Becoming fishers of men means that Jesus was going to use His disciples to grow the kingdom of God. Let’s take this time to look further at what it means to be fishers of men and how we can become fishers of men today.

Being fishers of men meant reaching out to people who have not heard about the love of Jesus, just like His apostles did. The apostles understood that although they were just fishermen, they were going to take His higher calling to be fishers of men. Jesus prepared them to serve in His ministry. If you want Jesus to use you to win souls for Him, then you surrender your life to Him and be ready to go fishing by preaching the gospel to sinners.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
