DCLM Higher Everyday 10 December 2022 — Follow his steps
DCLM Higher Everyday 10 December 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Follow his steps
TOPIC: FOLLOW HIS STEPS
TEXT: 1 PETER 2:21-25
22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
MEMORY VERSE: “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth” (1 PETER 2:21, 22).
MESSAGE:
In 1896, Charles M. Sheldon in one of his books – In His Steps, recounted the story of a local church whose members pledged, for an entire year, not to do anything without first asking the question, “What would Jesus do if He were in my place?” Following Christ’s steps brought joy to them.
Paul tells us that Christians are to follow our Lord’s example of kindness, holiness, patience in suffering, and courage in enduring persecution. Following Christ’s steps also entails humble service in God’s will.
Jesus is our standard; not any human. His life on earth, as recorded in the four Gospels, is a perfect example for us to follow. He never sinned, never retaliated when insulted or ever deceived anyone. Rather, He loved His haters and prayed for His persecutors.
We should believe that whatever God permits in our lives is for our eventual good. Follow His steps in love, faithfulness, devotion, diligence, suffering and doing the works of God. Fret not, He will bless you in due time.
QUOTE: Jesus is our standard.
CHALLENGE: Christ meekly endured sorrow, can you?
PRAYER: Oh God, give me the grace to follow my Saviour’s steps always.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
