Text: Matthew 6:12-15
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Key Verse: “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6:14
Message
Has someone hurt you recently and now you keep thinking of a way to get back at the person? Children often get upset and ready to take revenge to show the other person what it feels like to be hurt. However, there is a far better way to handle the situation. Jesus warns of the consequence of taking revenge. He commands us to forgive and show love to everyone. God is always ready to defend and fight for us if we let Him.

Joseph is a good example of how to forgive those who offend us. He had the power to get back at his brothers for what they did to him. He had a chance to get even, but instead he chose to show kindness. What would you have done if you were Joseph? Imagine if the person who hurt you was standing before you pleading for mercy. Now think of the many wrong things you have done in your life, all of which God has forgiven at great cost. In the same way you have been forgiven, God wants you to forgive the person who hurt you, and with His help even show kindness like Joseph did.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, please give me the strength and grace to forgive those who do wrong to me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
